Building Antifragile Schools
The evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic and the climate change events of this past summer have made it quite clear that a “return to normal” is not in the cards for educators and school leaders in the near future. Given this, it is desirable to think about how student learning and schools might be able to evolve and thrive in this context, and how they might explore new paths for growth - in short, how they might become _antifragile_. In this workshop, we will look at how to accomplish this goal at three key levels defined by the learner, the classroom, and the school. In doing so, we will leverage a new set of extensions to the SAMR model and the EdTech Quintet that have been specifically tuned to respond to the needs of antifragile design. Activities will unfold in progressively more localized fashion, starting with scenario analysis and role play, continuing with design processes, and concluding with participant-defined ready-to-use projects. All workshop activities have been carefully constructed so that all members of the school community can benefit from participating on an individual basis, while school teams will derive an additional boost and set of insights from group participation.

Robotics and Coding for All! Let's put an Edison Bot in your hands and explore hands-on STEM together
Robotics is one of the most versatile STEM tools in that it allows for design thinking in both physical and computational design. It's also just super engaging and fun to learn to take control of a machine and the instantaneous feedback makes for a dynamic learning environment. Seeing a student realize for the first time that they are talking to / controlling a machine with code never disappoints. Microbric Robotics from Australia has created the Edison robot, an affordable platform that is codable on a Chromebook in three different "languages" (primary blockly, scratch or python) and can be engineered with Lego blocks for nearly endless creations. If you have never coded but could picture robots in your school or curriculum, come let me introduce you to your own Edison and give you a broad hands-on introduction. If you're a robotics guru but have never explored the Edison, this will be a great session as I know you will love this platform. I've successfully used the Edison with students from K-12 and the potential curricular connections are limitless. I guarantee Edison can turn anyone into a coder - come let me show you how.

Registration Fee $75 - includes an Edison Robot - to ensure that the robots can be ordered and shipped on time, this workshop registration must be completed by Oct 1, 2021!!
